According to OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), a respirator is:
“[A] protective device that covers the nose and mouth or the entire face or head to guard the wearer against hazardous atmospheres….”
That definition, however, is not what most people mean by “respirator.” The term is most often used to refer to NIOSH-certified N-95 devices or devices that supply uncontaminated air from an external source.
According to the OSHA/CDC definition, therefore, the VictoryMask would qualify as a respirator. According to common usage, however, they would not.
Obviously, Universal Filters and ComfortSeal filters are not respirators.
